Directory:

Directory of Executive Recruiters by Kennedy Publishing - This two volume directory can be found in the New York City business library reference section. It lists both retainer-based and contingecy-based executive recruiters by geography, functional focus or industry focus. A good tool for identifying executive recruiters who might find your background appropriate for their clients. Includes e-mail addresses and/or street addresses and phone numbers for reaching the recruiters. Note: E-mailing or mailing your resume to the recruiters should get you into their databases. It's best not to call them since they like to call you when they have a position that matches your background.

Web Sites:

Craigslist.org - job listings and more in a variety of cities

WetFeet.com - a career site that can help one research different professions and companies

Vault.com - similar to WetFeet.com

Monster.com - like on any web site that posts jobs, pay attention to what company might have placed the ad. Pick up the phone and dial the company directly. They might be hiring for other positions that are not advertised. Many times the e-mail address the company provides gives away the name of the recruiter. Go ahead and call them directly if you want to be aggressive. Be sensitive about their time though. Many recruiters will make it impossible for you to reach them directly by phone, in which case you can just e-mail and hope they like your background.

Hotjobs.com - owned by Monster.com

6figurejobs.com - A good place to look for higher paying jobs. Recruiters post ads on this site

Dice.com - lists technical position openings

Bluesteps.com - for executive level positions

Latpro.com - for jobs for bilingual people
